Hello everyone! It’s been a while since I have posted anything, but today I’m going to share with you facts about The Spotted Hyenas. (make sure to check out the video at the end of my post)These animals live in forest, grasslands, savannas, woodlands and high latitudes. Spotted Hyenas are built strong, they have a large head and neck. Their ears are round and short and they have extremely strong jaws. Hyenas posture is similar to a bears, their front legs are longer than their hind which gives their back a sloping appearance. Their feet have four toes with wide toe pads and non-retractable claws. Spotted Hyenas have good hearing and sharp eyesight at night. They are fast and can run for long distances without getting tired. Hyenas live in groups called clans or packs which range from 5-8 members. These animals are known as scavengers and often feast on the leftovers of other predators. Not only do they just scavenge but these bold beast are also very skilled hunters and will take down wildebeest or antelope. They also kill and eat birds, lizards, snakes, and insects. Hyenas can survive several days without water and can travel long distances. Some interesting facts about the Hyena is they make a variety of vocalization, including howling screams, wailing calls, and the famous “Laughter” used to alert other clan members up to three miles away of a food source.
